One Simple New Year’s Resolution that Can Transform Your Business

With the end of the year approaching, many of us start thinking about New Year’s resolutions. We all have personal goals we want to achieve and what better time to start than the first day of the New Year?

If you are a small-business owner, you may want to consider setting a resolution for your company as well. For example, you could resolve to organize all of your old paperwork and back up important computer files. Or, maybe 2018 is the year you finally figure out how to make the most of your new accounting software.

One of the simplest resolutions you can make (and keep) as a business owner is choosing to use a third-party courier for your company’s delivery needs. If you or your employees are making deliveries when it has nothing to do with their role, then that’s not the best use of anyone’s time. By outsourcing deliveries, your employees can spend more time doing what you’ve hired them to do, like:

Strategizing: Growing a business is a never-ending process. You need to be constantly thinking about your business strategy, executing on that strategy, and anticipating when it’s time to move in a new direction. That’s why you want all of the brain power of your team in the office where you need it, not out running deliveries. Your team is likely full of ideas that can help grow your company. Set up regular brainstorm meetings to get those ideas on the table.

Selling: It’s simple. No sales, no business. Create a sales pitch that explains your company’s mission and fully conveys the strengths of your product or service. Once your sales team has landed a sale, let a third-party courier deliver the product, contracts, or any other important documents that are required. This will free your sales team up to pursue more sales.

Engaging Customers: Keeping your customers happy is the key to maintaining a successful business. Face-to-face meetings always take precedence over a phone call or an email. By freeing yourself of delivery demands, you will have time to meet regularly with your existing clients and make sure that their needs are being met.

Marketing: Everyone knows that marketing is absolutely crucial for any business. Leave your deliveries to the experts and use your time to dig into all the ways you can use social media to promote your business without costing you a penny. You can also start an email newsletter to keep customers up to date on the latest products, services, and promotions you’re offering. Or, take the time to re-evaluate your entire website to see if it needs an overhaul.

Training: Do you want your employees to learn a new skill? If they’re going to be out of the office, you might as well make sure they come back smarter than when they left. Instead of sending them on deliveries, send them to a class or seminar on selling techniques, computer coding, web design, or anything you need them to know. They’ll feel good that you’re investing in them and you’ll have employees with new skills that they’ll be eager to use.

No matter what your New Year’s resolutions are for your business, be sure to write them down and revisit them on a regular basis throughout the year. Then, at the end of the year, see how much progress you made on your resolutions and determine if you’re satisfied with the results, or if there’s more work to be done.
